Court jails man for breaking into Obasanjo’s compound

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has sentenced a 33-year-old man to 12 months jail term for attempting to steal from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The convict, Seun Sowemimo, with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of theft and causing breach of peace.

The magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, sentenced him to 12 months’ imprisonment, without an option of fine.

The prosecutor, Olakunle Shonibare, had told the court that Sowemimo scaled the fence into Obasanjo’s compound in Abeokuta on April 1 with an intent to steal.

He explained that immediately he jumped in, he was caught by one of the security guards on duty.

He said the offence contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
