Court issues bench warrant on civil servant for casting spell on girl

A Gwagwalada area court in the FCT on Thursday issued a bench warrant authorising the arrest of a 36-year-old civil servant, Moses Zaka, for allegedly cast a spell on a four-year-old girl.

The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, issued the warrant following an oral application by the prosecutor, Abdullahi Tanko, who prayed the court to revoke the bail of the defendant for not appearing to defend the charge against him.

Abdulkarim also ordered that a hearing notice should be served on the surety and adjourned the case to May 15.

Earlier, the police charged Zaka and Joseph (now at large) with criminal conspiracy and unlawful use of juju; charges which he pleaded not guilty to.

Tanko told the court that the complainant, Mr Labaran Dikko, of Gosa village, Abuja, reported to the police on December 16, 2022, that the defendant conspired to perform juju on his four-year-old daughter.

He said that during police investigation the defendant confessed that a native doctor performed the ritual in his house (defendant’s house).

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 216 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
