The president of the Mapo Customary Court, Ibadan, Chief Ademola Odunade, Thursday, dissolved the 29-year-old marriage between a school teacher, Mrs Iyabo Amusan, and her estranged husband, Joseph Amusan, over alleged incessant violent attacks and blackmail.
Iyabo, a resident of Asolo, Ibadan, had petitioned the court that her husband might kill her if something urgent was not done to separate them.

She said her husband had been blackmailing her that she presented fake documents to secure a job from the Oyo State government.
“If I had known that Joseph would live to be a monster to me even at old age, I would not have exchanged marital vows with him.
“Anytime there was a minor disagreement in the home, he wouldn’t hesitate to subject me to the highest form of brutality.
“At my age, he still kicks and slaps me left and right and even raises dangerous objects against me.
“He strips me naked in front of the children.
“In fact, Joseph inflicted machete cuts on my arm recently and I was hospitalised.
“Also, his relatives don’t want to see me.
“I have no rest of mind; Joseph is a pain on my neck.
“My husband is not a responsible man; I paid for our accommodation.
“He is never interested in the future of the children by not giving them education.
“Please, free me from his oppression,” the petitioner pleaded.
The respondent, a panel beater, consenting to the petition, denied any form of brutality against Iyabo.
He told the court that he contributed N20,000 as part of the rent.
“Although I sometimes beat Iyabo when she misbehaved, I am not a farmer and so couldn’t have cut her with a machete.
“She keeps packing in and out of the house.
“Iyabo often puts me to shame in public that I am a thief,” he stated.
Odunade held that the court was duty bound to ensure peace and harmony in matrimonial homes and, therefore, dissolved the marriage between the couple.
“The children are free to relate with any of the parents since they are all grown-ups.
“Joseph is ordered to vacate the house since it doesn’t belong to him,” he ruled.
