Court dismisses Gombe govt’s case against Goje’s aide

The Gombe State High Court on Thursday dismissed a case filed by the state government against Muhammad Adamu Yayari, a social media aide to a former governor of the state, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje.

Yayari was in November, 2021, arrested by the police and remanded in police custody and at a custodial centre by a Magistrate’s Court 4 over a false publication on his Facebook page.

He was said to have posted on his Facebook page on November 25, that some ward executives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Yamaltu/Deba LGA of the state had resigned in solidarity with Goje.

Yayari was dragged to the court by the state government through a petition against him by the state Secretary of the APC, Abubakar Umar S. Goro.

His counsel, Luka Haruna, filed a case before Justice Haruna Kerengs of the state high court seeking the court to dismiss the case of false publication labelled against his client.

In his verdict, Justice Kerengs quashed all the charges filed against Yayari, stating that all the previous court proceedings at both magistrates’ courts 4 and 11 were null and void.

He said that posting about the said resignation on his Facebook page was not an offence because other media organisations published about the resignation.
