Court convicts woman for stealing from boyfriend

A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kado has sentenced one Zainab Saidu to 10 months in prison for stealing the sum of N150,000 cash, an Infinix Note 2 phone valued at N55,000 and for carrying out a transaction with her boyfriend’s ATM card without his consent.
Zainab who resides at No 25 Janruwa Street, GRA Katsina, Katsina State, was convicted under Section 288 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, had told the court that the complainant, Mr. Murtala L. Kajo, reported at Mabuchi police station that Zainab stole his Infinix Note 2 phone valued at N55,000, N150, 000 cash as well as his Zenith Bank ATM card.
Obatomi added that the accused person used the ATM card to withdraw N290,000 from the complainant’s account.
She said the accused confessed to the crime during police investigation.
When this charge was read to the accused person, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the presiding judge, Mohammed Ado, with an option to pay a fine of N20, 000 with N200, 000 compensation to the complainant.
