The Plateau state High Court sitting in Jos has adjourned the corruption case involving a former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, who was accused of misappropriating state fund amounting to N6.3billion to December, 4th, 2018 for the definite hearing.
The case was adjourned due to Jang’s absence. His lawyer told the court that was suffering from high blood pressure and low sugar level.
“And his doctor advised him to, at least rest for a week to enable him recuperate, that’s the reason we are seeking for the adjournment,” he requested.
The counsel to the Plaintiffs, Rotimi Jacob didn’t object the request for the adjournment.
Jang, a serving senator representing Plateau North at the National assembly, is standing trial before Plateau State High Court on a 12-count charge of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds slammed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).
Jang, who was a presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is being prosecuted alongside a cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Gyang Pam.
During the sitting on Tuesday before the case was adjourned to today Wednesday, two witness; Mr Uchenna Igwe, who was a Senior Manager, Zenith Bank, Branch Head, Jos in 2015 and Mr Olayiton Abdullahi, a Director, Monitoring, Planning and Operations, Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) told court how the administration of Jang allegedly diverted the sum of N2 billion disbursed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, (MSMEs) beneficiaries in Plateau state.
But during today’s sitting, only the second accused person, Pam was in court.
The presiding judge, Daniel Longji adjourned the case to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th December, 2018 for the continuation of hearing.
