The State High Court sitting in Jos has adjourned ex-Governor, David Jonah Jang of Plateau state’s N6.3 billion corruption case for arraignment and hearing of bail application to Wednesday.
It will be recalled that the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has filed a motion before Justice Daniel Longji of the Jos High Court to arraign the ex-Governor Jang on a 12-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and stealing of N6.3 billion belonging to the state two months before leaving office in May.
But during today’s sitting, the counsel to the Plaintiff, Henri Ajiji urged the court to adjourn the case to Wednesday to enable them properly arraign the accused persons.
He told the court that they were having logistics issue from Abuja to Jos, but by Wednesday they would be ready for the case.
However, the counsel to the accused persons, Robert Clarke said that the EFCC were unable to tidy up their case which was a pity.
"We have been brought to court by Federal Republic of Nigeria to answer certain charges, unfortunately EFCC were unable to tidy up their case,
"They filed their charges but normal process of getting the court’s permission about the charges weren’t obtained." He said.
He added that when they came here they realised that EFCC have filed an exparte motion, and has now convinced him that the matter is not due for hearing.
"We will be coming back on Wednesday to listen to the charges and take a plea to the charges and then we apply for bail for the accused persons."
During today’s sitting there were about 150 armed policemen stationed at various entries and premises of the court to maintain law and order.
And while the sitting was on and thereafter, there were Pro-Jang and Pro-Lalong protests along the road that leads to the court.
What remains to be seen is whether EFCC would bring Jang before the court during the arraignment on Wednesday.
