Bauchi State chapter of Counseling Association of Nigeria has promised to partner with the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in the area of counselling, rehabilitation and providing vocational training to inmates in the state.
A Statement by the Nigeria Prisons Service Bauchi State Command Spokesperson, Adam Abubakar Jibrin quoted the Bauchi State Chapter Chairperson of Counseling Association of Nigeria, Mrs. Esther Luka Gidimi who paid a courtesy visit to the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command, CP Suleiman T.Suleiman in his office Monday.
According to the statement, Mrs. Luka said the association has a major role to play in the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates.
She informed that as professional counsellors, they were deeply concerned with the high rate of drug abuse and other social vices mostly common among the youths.
She attributed the development to lack of proper guidance and Counseling and moral upbringing.
The Chairperson noted that the Counseling Association is ready to render services to both inmates and social welfare staff of the Nigerian Prisons Service.
In his remarks, the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command, CP Suleiman T.Suleiman noted that both the Counseling Association and NPS are partners in progress as they both provide correctional services aimed at reforming the individuals in the society.
He assured the counsellors of his support as they provide vocational Counseling to the prison inmates in Bauchi State.
