Weekly Trust learnt from sources that 2,400 bags of fertiliser were allocated to the local government areas’ 24 wards, 100 bags for each. But the councillor allegedly took 400 for himself.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the , task force on the distribution of fertiliser in Gombe State, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Sule Bage. The statement was made available to newsmen in the state.

The statement said the 400 bags of fertiliser which the councillor allegedly wanted to divert to his own use were meant for the people of Ashaka/Magaba ward of Funakaye local government area.

He said operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested the stolen bags of fertiliser being conveyed in two pick-up vans with registration number DA 706 TRN and DA 538 GUS along the Gombe-Yobe border, on their way to Yobe State.

Governor Muhammad Danjuma Goje of Gombe State said he had given security officials in the state the right to investigate the councillor accused of diverting the fertiliser.

The governor said, if found guilty of committing the offence, he should be prosecuted. The Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abdullahi Usman Kamba, told Weekly Trust the case has not been formally reported to the police.
