Council chairman, 13 others kidnapped in Edo

The chairman, Esan Central local government of Edo state, Mr. Waziri Edokpa, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

Edokpa, a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, was kidnapped in the early hours of Friday Between Ekpoma and Benin.

I3 passengers of a popular Benin-based transport company were also said to have been abducted on their way to Abuja from Benin the Edo state capital.

The passengers were kidnapped after the driver of the bus had been killed by the kidnappers.

The whereabouts of all the victims are still unknown as the kidnappers were yet to make contacts with victims relations.

Security situation in the Edo state has been worsening due to the absence of police operatives on the roads since the #EndSARS protest in the state.

People are now appealing to the police authorities to deploy mobile policemen recently posted to the state.

Daily Trust learnt that chairmen of local government that make up Edo south senatorial district are in a closed door meeting with the Edo state commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, on how to address the security challenges in the area.

Attempts to obtain police reaction proved abortive as the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chidi Nwabuzor, neither respond to call nor the text message sent to his phone.
