The Vice Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, Prof Carl Adams says aside the use of good West African Examination Council (WAEC) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results to admit the best students, the varsity would adopt the use of transcripts to help students with potentials.
Prof Adams who stated this at its maiden Open House in Abuja on Thursday said Transcript shows at least three years records of the students and those who have potentials and didn’t have best results would be considered for admission as well.
He said any of the admitted students who is intelligent to get a first class in the first semester is likely to be offered a scholarship.
The Vice Chancellor, however, noted that the varsity is committed to a technological driven education that would bring about the latest thinking and practices in different disciplines.
He said artificial intelligence (AI) and other technology will be used in teaching students to help them compete and take over leadership not just in Nigeria but the world at large.
Prof Adams said the university, which is to commence its first session in September 2023, is going to provide a student centred learning experience that is of international standard and innovation.
“At Cosmopolitan, we embed entrepreneurship and innovations to encourage partnerships between businesses, professionals, innovators, other academic organisations, and researchers. Our students will be well placed to be the academic, business, industry, and thought leaders of the future,” he said.
While noting that the idea of sending students abroad to get the international good quality education may no longer be necessary, he said: “We want to give people the experience here and we want to keep them here to develop and be tech leaders not just in Nigeria but all over the world.”
“For the students to get the best education, we want to bring international footprint and expertise by looking at the best in the world. We are giving students the opportunity to play with technologies and take the inspiration from them to go to the next level,” he said.
“We want to engage them strong that they will be able to understand analyse and evaluate the technology and apply to real world purpose. It is not about technology but about the latest thinking and practices in each of the professions.”
“Why AI, you may ask, technology is inbeded in modern life and systems, so they need to learn how to use them and how to be critical in using them. Businesses and firms around the world are embracing AI, and they would be looking for the beat in the field.”
