The Executive Chairman of Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Kamar Disu says yesterday that religious leaders are on the same page with the Federal Government in its war against corruption.

He urged the government to remain focused and determined to tackle the scourge of corruption outright, saying Nigerians have paid the price of not dedicatedly fighting corruption in the past.

Disu spoke with Daily Trust in Lagos ahead of the Centre’s fifth National Convention with theme, “Public Trust and Accountability” to be chaired by Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar on Saturday in Lagos.

He said the convention theme was also instigated by the current war against corruption by the Federal Government, saying government must sustain the gains that have been recorded.

He said, “Some of the gains of the campaign against corruption, we need to consolidate those gains and we need to encourage the leadership with solidarity and matching commitment from the religious community that we are on the same page with them in this war against corruption because we all know where this issue of corruption has landed us.

“So all hands need to be on deck in order to stop it and inoculate ourselves. That is the crucial role that the religious community is playing in this war against corruption”.

Disu also urged the government to shun all conspiracy theories against the current war against graft and refuse to be distracted.

“It is good to prosecute people and take them to court. What the religious leaders and religious community are contributing to this war is to actually inoculate people to change their heart and mind so that when they are trusted with public office, they are so inoculated against the disease of wanting to gain inappropriately from the public purse.

“I am for any effort to combat this scourge and bring it to a complete stop by all means necessary.

I will encourage the government not to be distracted by the noise and cries of people who are making allegations as well as accusations. I want the government to be focused and single-mindedly dedicated to fight this to a stop”.
