Corpse of kidnapped ex-principal recovered from shallow grave

A police team has recovered the decomposed body of an abducted ex-principal, Simon Peter Ankau, from a shallow grave in Gaya town located between Ukum and Katsina-Ala LGAs of Benue State.

 The late Ankau (74), a retired school principal, was said to have been kidnapped on April 18, in Chito community in Ukum LGA and that every effort by his family to find him yielded no fruitful result for the past four months.

 It was gathered that the abductors continued to request ransom from the family and that when the victim’s wife and son took the ransom to them they were also taken into captivity.

 But the police team, popularly known as Operation Zenda, in May, this year, one month after the victim was taken away, during a search and rescue operation freed the wife and the son, alongside other captives.

 The operatives of Operation Zenda, led by the Commander, CSP Justine Gberindyer, at the weekend in their continued effort in search of the the victim, discovered and exhumed his remains.

It was further learnt that one of the deceased’s sons, Jacob Terkaa Ankau, is a priest at the St Peter’s Catholic Parish, Ayati, Ukum LGA.

 The remains of the late Ankau, as gathered, were handed over to his family for proper burial.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on telephone on Sunday, said the family of had buried him.
