The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to use their one-year mandatory service to promote national integration and development.
Dr Mariya made the call at the official closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch A Stream 2 orientation exercise for corps members deployed to the FCT.
The minister, who was represented by the FCTA Mandate Secretary for Social Development, Ibrahim Aminu, emphasised the importance of the corps members’ role in fostering unity and progress across the country.
She said, “Wherever you may find yourselves, you must strive to make a difference; to spearhead transformation, promote harmonious interaction and creative development.”

The FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, warned the corps members against inducing or rejecting posting for their primary assignments.
She urged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and register for post-camp SAED training, noting that such a step would help to prepare them for the task ahead.
City & Crime further reports that 4,556 corps members, comprising 1,831 males and 2,725 females, took part in the orientation exercise.
