Corps members donate to community, school in Gombe

Mrs Imoni revealed that she was particularly moved by the donation of the wheelchair

Two serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Gombe State, have donated educational materials, solar panel and wheelchair to their host communities.

One of the Corps members, Ms Precious Omimi donated a wheelchair to a female physically challenged student, an automatic hand washing machine for use at the NYSC Orientation Camp and a Solar Panel to the NYSC Zonal office.

While Eko Uko Onaji donated educational materials to pupils of Shongo Idrissa Primary School and students of Government Day Secondary School, Shongo Idrissa, all in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking, at the ceremony, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Ada Imoni described Community Development Service (CDS) as one of the major contributing factors for the enduring relevance of the NYSC programme in its 48 years of existence.

She commended the corps members for taking the bold steps to initiate and execute viable projects for the benefit of members of their host communities.

Mrs Imoni revealed that she was particularly moved by the donation of the wheelchair to Zainab Mohammed, a physically challenged female student of the GDSS, Shongo Idrissa.

While encouraging other serving corps members to emulate the good gestures of their colleagues, the coordinator added that the corps members must strive to mingle with members of their host communities and ensure that they touch their lives positively.

Earlier, the Principal of the school, Alhaji Mahmud Mohammed, commended the Corps members for standing out and making a positive impact in the community.

He prayed for the sustenance of the NYSC scheme and commended the federal government for keeping the scheme visible.
