The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) on Monday asked the Federal Government of Nigeria to regularly ascertain the integrity of engineering infrastructure to curb the incessant building and bridge collapses in the country.
COREN Registrar Prof. Joseph O. Odigure, in a statement, said after visiting some of the sites of recent building and bridge collapses, the engineering industry regulatory agency discovered that the integrity of many engineering infrastructure needed to be examined.

“In line with the mandate of COREN, the Council having carried out an on the Spot assessment of the site of the collapse and interacted with the representatives of other relevant professional bodies, will undertake a full scale investigation into the root cause of the collapse.
“The recent collapse of a bridge in Kwara State after a heavy downpour also brings to mind the need to regularly ascertain the integrity of Engineering Infrastructure in Nigeria”, Odigure said.
He said the COREN was in the process of inaugurating national and state technical committees on engineering regulation monitoring to thoroughly examine all engineering infrastructure across the country.
