COREN registered 7,677 engineers in 2019

A total of 7,677 Nigerian engineers have been registered by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) between March and December this year, COREN president, Engr Ali Rabiu, has said.

He disclosed this at a press briefing after the council’s last quarter meeting in Abuja at the weekend, adding that 762 technologists were also registered during the period under review.

He also said 46 technicians, 95 craftsmen, 28 expatriates and 21 engineering firms got COREN registration this year.

According to him, 34 engineering programmes got full accreditation and 10 programmes had interim accreditation.

Engr. Rabiu said it is compulsory for all engineering practitioners and engineering firms to be certified through the council’s registration and licensing processes as only registered engineering practitioners are permitted by law to hold senior engineering positions like head of engineering departments and units, and control of engineering projects.

He said the council would work with relevant stakeholders to reduce the incidents of building collapse in the country.
