The Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has insisted on upholding engineering codes of practice in public works and ensuring that all works are executed in accordance with design and specification of the Registered Engineers.
This is just as the body and the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun have inaugurated two committees with a mandate to hunt down defaulters and quacks handling engineering contracts across the state.
The Technical Committee (OGSTC) and the Expatriate Monitoring Committee (OGSEMC) were inaugurated in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Abiodun while inaugurating committee members said they have the mandate to observe and report cases of non-adherence to approved engineering codes of practice in respect of public and private works.

According to Abiodun, the committee members would act as COREN watch dogs on maintenance, upholding engineering codes of practice in public works, prohibit default and ensure that all such works are in accordance with design and specification of the Registered Engineers.
The governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr Babatunde Adeshina said: “In carrying out engineering projects in Ogun State, there will be no tolerance for quackery.”
Earlier, the COREN President, Engr Ali Rabiu noted that as a regulatory body “a vital part of enforcing best practices in engineering is ensuring that only registered and licensed practitioners are engaged for any engineering job.”
He sought for a continued partnership with the government in order to ensure that engineering practice in the State continues to meet global best practices.
