The Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has elected Engr. Ali A. Rabiu, FNSE as its new president.
Engr Rabiu was elected at the extra-ordinary council meeting of the professional body held last week. He takes over from Engr. Kashim A. Ali, FNSE, FAEng, NPOM mni who served two terms as president of the council from April 2013 – April 2019.
A statement signed by COREN’s head of public relations, Haruna Ojonugwa, said Engr. Rabiu, who was born on April 24, 1963 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, attended Bayero University Kano from where he obtained a bachelor’s degree and an MBA in Civil Engineering.
He is a COREN registered engineer and a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Member, Nigerian Water and Sanitation Association (MNIWASA) and Member, Association of Consulting Engineers, Nigeria (ACEN) among others.
For his many contributions to the community and his novel works in his home state, Nssarawa, he was honoured with the traditional title of Cigarin Lafia by HRH, Alh. Isa Mustapha Agwai 1, Emir of Lafia. He is also a recipient of various professional awards and recognitions.
He has held many key positions such as: Member, Presidential Monitoring Team on DFRRI Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, Sokoto and Kebbi states; Consultant/Member, House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on the investigation of flooding of the Goronyo Dam, Sokoto State; Member, Governing Council, Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State; chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Kano Branch; chairman, Technical Committee to assess the damage/losses caused by fire outbreak at Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market, Kano State to mention but few.
Engr. Rabiu also has a robust professional career in engineering spanning over 30 years in the public and private sectors.
He is a former vice president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
