Makinwa’s appearance on Nigeria’s 1,411 delegation list sparked outrage, especially on the social media, with many doubting her role at the meeting.
During the recent edition of her podcast, TokeMoments, Makinwa admitted that the backlash became really serious when “important people” started calling her.
When asked by her guest and popular actress, Ini Edo, how her attendance at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai went and if she participated in the panel discussions?

“Yes,” Toke Makinwa said. “I completed what I set out to do with it though I was shocked by the uproar. And I think I woke up to see the backlash on social media because Dubai is three hours (ahead of Nigeria).
“It became more serious for me when important people began calling me. I think that was funny. I strolled into this hotel in Dubai where there were a lot of prominent people, and they started calling me ‘item seven,’ which was really funny. Everyone just laughed. It was hilarious.”
