Youths in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed opposition to alleged plan to micro-zone positions allotted to each geopolitical zone ahead of the forthcoming national convention of the party.
They also flayed the Abubakar Baraje-led new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) in the APC for allegedly plotting to destabilise the ruling party.
The youths, operating under the aegis of Forum of Young APC Stakeholders, addressed journalists, yesterday, in Abuja through their National Field Director, Alwa Hassan.
They claimed that some party leaders and governors were planning to hand-pick individuals who would occupy the various offices assigned to each geo-political zone.
They canvassed that delegates be allowed to freely elect their leaders at the forthcoming national convention.
Hassan said: “APC as a progressive party that represents the collective will of all her members must not only conduct her affairs differently, it must be seen as doing so. Every member of the party irrespective of their state of origin or residence must be allowed to contest for any position of their choice provided that such position is one of those allocated to his or her zone.”
On the ultimatum given by members of the defunct nPDP, the youth advised them to channel their grievances appropriately and join hands with other stakeholders to move the APC forward.
“The action of the Kawu Baraje-led group which issued a seven-day ultimatum to the party in a letter alleging marginalisation, maltreatment and witch-hunt is not only embarrassing but a deliberate ploy to destabilise our great party,” he said.
