Controversy trails killing of ‘kidnappers’ sharing ransom in forest by police

The alleged killing of some kidnappers said to be sharing ransom inside a Kwara forest has assumed a new dimension as families of the deceased district head and a son of another district head, allege police complicity.

The families accused the operatives of complacency over the incident which occurred in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The State Police PRO, Ajayi Okasanmi, had said the kidnappers were accosted in the bush while sharing the ransom collected from the family of the victims where they suffered gunshot injuries and died at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

Speaking with Daily Trust Saturday on the issue, a son to the deceased magaji, Yunus Aroyo, faulted the police, explaining that their father was a victim of the land crisis between Ilorin and Shao town in Moro Local Government Area of the state.

The Kwara State Vigilante commander, Alhaji Saka Ibrahim, told our reporter that his men were not part of the operation, thereby contradicting the police report.

Meanwhile, the Moro House of Assembly APC candidate, Lawal Ayanshola Soliu, confirmed to our correspondent that his wife and son were kidnapped and released the same day the police said they killed the two ‘kidnappers’.

The Ohoro of Shao, the paramount traditional ruler of the town, who was accused by the magajis, Oba Bamidele Adegbite, refused to pick several calls and text message made to him since Thursday.

Also, the Jagunmolu of Shao, Elder Woke Oke, when contacted told Daily Trust Saturday that “I would not want to speak on the issue.”
