Controversy trail grains distribution in Kaduna

Supporters of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (APC) of sharing essential commodities to induce voters.
A beneficiary in Kachia town, Peter Maigida, said about 1, 200 bags of maize donated by the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mohammed Sani Sidi, were shared among widows and the poor in the Sothern Kaduna district. Maigida said: “I received two bags while other people got between three and four bags free of charge.”
He said the bags were shared to people irrespective of tribe, religion and party affiliation.
When contacted, an aide to the DG, Yusuf Garba, said the grains were distributed to the needy to cushion the effect of poverty.  He said the DG, who is a member of the PDP, procured the grains personally to assist “his people.”
But a member of the APC in Kwai, Jema’a Local Government Area, Sunday Aboi, said bags of grains were distributed by the ruling party to influence voting.
“It is obvious that the PDP is making efforts to bribe the electorate in rural areas. They are now sharing bags of grains to villagers to get their votes,” he said.
