A middle-aged man was on Monday beaten to death for allegedly stealing copper wire in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that the deceased was working in a construction site.
Eyewitnesses alleged that he was beaten to death after he was accused of stealing copper wire.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday, said the incident was reported to the police at Alausa division around 4pm on Sunday.

Hundeyin said the complainant, whose name was not mentioned, told the police he received a telephone call from one of his brothers that one Monday had been lynched to death.
Hundeyin said the complainant claimed that the victim was initially beaten with copper wire, before he was eventually strangled to death with the same wire.
He said some of the suspects arrested in connection to the death of the victim are Samuel Lamak, 33, and Akeem Ahmed, 40.
The police spokesperson however said the crime scene was visited by the investigation team from Alausa Police division.
“The corpse of the deceased was recovered and evacuated to the mortuary at the Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, Lagos State, for preservation and autopsy, while investigation is ongoing on the matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olarewaju, has promised that those involved in the alleged murder of the young man would be arrested and prosecuted.
