Constitution amendment will address challenges – Lawmakers

Members of the National Assembly on Saturday said the amendment of the 1999 Constitution will address numerous challenges facing the country.

The lawmakers spoke in separate interviews shortly after the South West town hall meeting between them and their constituents held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The lawmakers that were in attendance are Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi (Ekiti North), Senator Tolu Odebiyi (Ogun West); Senator Kola Balogun (Oyo South); Mr Bamidele Salam (Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore /Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State); Isiaka Ibrahim (Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State) and Babajide Obanikoro (Eti Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State).

The meeting was organised by Daria Media and supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

In his speech, Mr Salam said, “The constitution will be amended before the end of this 9th National Assembly. I want to assure that the amendment will be done.” 

Similarly, a Member of the House of Representatives, Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State, Isiaka Ibrahim, said Nigerians would see the progress made so far by the lawmakers concerning the amendment of the constitution as from January 27.
