The electronic voting process suffered hitches as the House of Representatives begins voting on the 68 clauses to be amended in the 1999 Constitution on Tuesday.

The House decided to adopt the exciting platform as part of its digitalisation and transformation into an e-parliament.

It could be recalled that the House had been using voice vote to adopt or reject Bills and motions on the floor.

When the House voted the first time on the first clause on the abrogation of the states and local government joint account, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the vote had to be taken again to ascertain the number of lawmakers present in the chamber.

Earlier, some lawmakers objected to the presence of the Vice President’s wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, who came to observe the proceedings.

Her presence was announced by the House Leader, Allhassan Ado Doguwa, who also moved a motion to that effect and was seconded by Beni Lar.

However, some members objected to her presence, but they were overruled after a voice vote.

It could be recalled that the President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, also visited the House of Representatives and Senate chambers earlier last week.

The minister of women affairs, Paullen Tallen, also came to the House to observe the proceedings.

The House is considering the 68 clauses in the proposed amended Constitution.

After a while, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila informed that there were 272 members in the House for consideration.
