The Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has constructed and commissioned solar-powered boreholes at several hospitals, residential areas and the state abattoir.
The former governor said his desire was driven by the fact that drinking contaminated water was responsible for the deteriorating health condition of most of the people.

Senator Shekarau added that he targeted mainly Kano Municipal because it is densely populated, adding that approximately two million residents would benefit from the project.
He said the total fund budgeted for the project was N190 million and that places like Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital in Jakara City Centre, Sheikh Muhammad Jidda Hospital, the State Infectious Diseases Hospital and many others were provided with the boreholes.
Shekarau stated that his next target would be villages in his senatorial district after which he would turn to educational development which, he said he had already started doing something on.
Many residents who spoke with Kano Chronicle thanked the senator for the project.
Malam Aminu Ado, a resident of Yalwa, said they spent many years without seeing a single drop of water coming out from the tap, but now with the intervention of the senator their problem of safe drinking water had become history.
A meat seller at the state main abattoir, Ibrahim Muhammad, said they suffered a lot from water scarcity in the abattoir.
