‘Constant training key to teacher performance’

An educationist and founder of Edufast International Consult, Chima Ibiam Azu, has said that lack of constant training is an obstacle to teacher development and performance in the country.
Azu told Daily Trust yesterday that training is the only way to enhance the performance of teachers in providing quality education to students.
He said tens of thousands of students are being taught by teachers lacking decent subject expertise, adding that consistent teacher training will tackle learning challenges.
He said the inability of teachers to offer quality knowledge is the major reason for mass failure in some subjects, adding that education authorities must device means of evaluating teacher effectiveness.
“If teachers are well equipped with new learning methods and materials, students would not encounter difficulties in learning.”
He said that social networking contributed in distracting students from facing their studies seriously.
