Conor McGregor joins Wyss, two others who want to buy Chelsea

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has joined the list of individuals who are bidding to buy Chelsea Football Club after it was put up for sale by Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire, who bought the Blues for £140million in 2003, has been in hot water following Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine which brought his relationship with Vladimir Putin into the spotlight.

The UFC star who is worth around £135million, on Twitter said he wishes to explore the opportunity to buy the club valued at £3bn.

“I wish to explore this, Chelsea” in response to a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from an unknown contact which read: “Chelsea for sale, £3bn. Let’s buy it,” he tweeted.

He joins Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss who has emerged as an early frontrunner after he had announced that he had been offered the chance to invest in the club along with three other unnamed parties.

The other two individuals are the owner of the French club side, Nice, Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is known to have held a season ticket at Stamford Bridge despite supporting Manchester United and American billionaire, Todd Boehly who had unsuccessfully failed to buy Chelsea in 2019.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Abramovich has reportedly rejected a £2.5billion offer to buy Chelsea.

The Russian oligarch is listening to offers for the European champions and it’s believed he wants around £4bn, although bids of £3bn or more will be taken seriously.
