Congratulations, Daily Trust on ‘restructuring debate’

I cannot resist writing to congratulate you and the Board of Media Trust Ltd chaired by Alhaji Kabiru A. Yusuf for facilitating the recent great debate on Restructuring: Why? When? How? Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf himself is a distinguished and patriotic pioneer newspaper publisher from the northern part of Nigeria.

He is among the very few people from the northern part of Nigeria who have succeeded in the newspaper managing and publishing business. May Allah (swt) continue to guide him and bless his efforts in this business of his choice. Amin.

Titled Restructuring: Why? When? How? Media Trust Ltd has somehow succeeded in removing the characteristic acrimony, tension and unhealthy politics in the national question/restructuring debate by cleverly picking/choosing only five national leaders with well-known pedigree and current status to discuss restructuring from their rich and well informed perspectives and the five chosen leaders and speakers are proper representatives of Nigeria’s diversity.

SPONSOR AD

Knowing their backgrounds and keeping in mind the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the speakers: former President Goodluck Jonathan; Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere leader; Chief John Nnia Nwodo, former President-General of Ohanaeze-Ndigbo; Prof. Attahiru Jega, well known professor of Political Science, a great/charismatic former ASUU president, VC Bayero University, Kano and dynamic chairman of INEC. Next is Chief Audu Ogbeh, not the least by any means. He is highly educated and cerebral former minister of communications in the 2nd Republic and also minister of agriculture in this dispensation. He is a well-respected leader from the North-Central zone and chairman ACF, socio-cultural umbrella organization of the 19 Northern states.

If you add the remarks of former President Goodluck Jonathan as chairman of the occasion and also Kabiru Yusuf as Chairman of Media Trust Ltd to that of the four speakers, the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assemblies have sufficient material to guide them to make any urgent/necessary constitutional amends. Of course, they can also carefully study the reports of the 2005 political reforms conference and 2014 constitutional conference.

Finally, Nigerians and the Nigerian political class need to be reminded that there is no generation in any country of the world which can resolve/find solutions to all the problems/crises arising from the nation building process and governance processes of their time. Every generation must pass on certain unfinished matters to coming generations. Just see what is happening all over the world today. May Allah (swt) guide our leaders along the right path. Amin
