Concerned Rivers elite chide Gumi’s call for Wike’s sack

A group, Concerned Elites of Rivers State, has condemned Sheikh Ahamd Gumi’s call on sacking of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while describing him as an untamed ethnic chauvinist.

Sheikh Gumi and some other Islamic clerics have recently in separate viral videos attacked and threatened to mobilize against President Bola Tinubu in their demand for the removal of Wike as FCT minister.

The convener of concerned elites of Rivers State, Chief Tony C Okocha, described Gumi’s slants as unwarranted and uncalled for while briefing a press conference in Abuja yesterday.

He said incisive vituperations of Gumi as spread by his adherents and ilk are, “affront to our one nationhood and so, we conclude that it is treasonable.’’

He further asked rhetorically that, “How does being a Christian make one an infidel or how could Sheikh Gumi refer to the occupant of the FCT Ministerial office, one tested and proven as an infidel?

“Is Abuja designated a core northern state to be inhabited and governed only by the northerners? Are all northern Indigenes Muslims?

He also debunked the rumors being spread around that the visit of the Israeli ambassador to the FCT minister as a declaration of support to Israel over the genocide in Palestine.

According to him, the visit was for both countries to synergize on agriculture technology and development, security, ICT and digital economy.
