The Federal Government says the launch of Computer Emergency Response and Readiness Centre has boosted cyber security in the country.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, said this in Abuja on Monday during the commissioning of the digital complex at the headquarters of the National Information Technology Development Agency.
Pantami said with the aid of the CERRC, cybercrimes would be reduced to its barest minimum if not completely eradicated.
“Today there are many challenges with regards to security based on what is happening online. With CERRC teams, we’ll be able to be the watchdog of the federal government, monitor potential cybercriminals attacks on our country, come up with policies and strategies to prevent our country from the attacks or at least reduce it to the barest minimum”, the minister said.
NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi had, earlier in his welcome address, alluded to the importance of the centre to security, the digitalization of the country’s economy and the rebranding of the agency.
