Compliance Institute Nigeria (CIN) has concluded plans to induct over 160 new members into the professional body at its second Induction ceremony and Annual General Meeting billed for December 8 in Lagos.
Speaking at a press briefing heralding the event, CIN President/Chairman of Board, Mr. Pattison Boleigha, said the institute aims at actualizing Nigeria’s efforts to stem the scourge of corruption, defeat terrorism and instil discipline and a culture of compliance in Nigeria.
He said a total of over 150 newly certified members who successfully sat for and passed the Institute’s compliance professional examinations will be awarded Designate Compliance Professional (DCP).
“Another 10 members will be decorated with Associate, Compliance Institute, Nigeria (ACIN) after applying for and obtaining exemptions as compliance practitioners with the requisite qualifications and experience.
“Finally, 25 prominent compliance practitioners in Nigeria will be receiving the prestigious Honorary Fellowship, Compliance Institute, Nigeria (FCIN-H),” Mr. Boleigha said.
He noted that the CIN has reviewed its DCP curriculum to include more contemporary compliance topics such as Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Ethics, Governance and Treating Customers Fairly.
“The examinations for award of ACIN certification will commence in 2019 and is also expected to cover Telecommunications, manufacturing (Pharmaceutical, Foods and Beverages), Oil and Gas and Mining areas.
“In other to further enhance the value of its certification, the Institute is entering into a strategic partnership with a notable compliance body, the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) of Florida, United States of America.
“The partnership with ACAMS will provide CIN members with a wide range of compliance professional resources at highly discounted rates. Arrangements have also been concluded to provide scholarships for indigent student members to encourage more student members to get compliance certifications.
“Furthermore, discussions have commenced with the other sectors of the economy outside the financial services, such as Law Enforcement Agencies, Tax Administration, Telecommunications, Manufacturing (Pharmaceutical, Foods and Beverages), Oil and Gas, Mining and Government ministries, departments and agencies.
“With a present membership strength of about 1200, CIN continues its drive for membership. The public is invited to join by visiting the Institute’s website to register online via www.complianceinstitute.org.ng.
“The institute plans to grow its membership to 3,000 by the end of 2019. Plans are also in place to introduce a Diploma course on Customer Due Diligence, which would be targeted at the Sales and Customer Service staff of financial institutions.
“The Institute is currently pursuing its Chartered status at the National Assembly.
“With the coming of the institute to Nigeria and Africa, it is poised to set the right tone for compliance in the continent. Compliance should be part of all organization’s operations and need to be entrenched in all staff and compliance officers,” he added.
He further said the event will hold at Ijewere Hall, Chartered Institute of Banks in Nigeria (CIBN), located at 19c Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island in Lagos.

Midwifed by the Association of Chief Compliance Officers of Banks in Nigeria (ACCOBIN), the Institute was established to promote professionalism, facilitate cooperation and maintenance of compliance standards.
