Complaints commission received 1500 cases from 2021 in Plateau – Commissioner

The Federal Commissioner of Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Plateau State, Abdullahi Abbas Garba, has revealed that the commission has received 1500 cases from 2021 to date in Plateau State.

He said out of the number received, a total of 881 are still unresolved, while 619 cases were resolved.

Speaking Tuesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital at an interactive session on ‘Systemic and Proactive Investigation into Victimization of Students in Tertiary Institutions in Plateau State’, he assured that the commission is the machinery for the control of administrative excesses/non-adherence to procedures or abuse of law.

He said it is an organ of the government set up to redress complaints lodged by aggrieved citizens or residents in Nigeria against administrative injustice.

“The functions of the public complaints commission includes to initiate, receive, process, investigate and redress complaints, and to promote fairness, unity, peace, egalitarian and social order in Nigeria.

“The commission was also repositioned and strengthened to ensure proper and appropriate democratic processes such as supervision of all federal elections and monitoring of election misconducts which includes vote buying, voter intimidation, rigging, thuggery and other vices in the conduct of election.

“Public Complaints Commission was established to strengthen and advocate good administration that leads to good governance justice fair play. tranquillity and peace for national growth and development.

“The commission in Plateau has received a total number of 1500 cases from 2021 to date, and a total of 881 are still unresolved, while 619 number of cases were resolved.

“It is however, noteworthy to understand that the activities of the public Complaints Commission is limited to criminal cases,” he said.

In her remarks, the Plateau State Commissioner for Higher Education, Kachollom Gang, decried the culture of silence among victims, saying that there have been cases of abuse and victimisation in schools, especially the tertiary institutions.

The Commissioner said because victims don’t speak out, the PCC hardly gets to know some of the cases, saying that the cases are undoubtedly on the rise.

She called on victims to speak out, saying that it would enable the government or appropriate authority to take necessary action.
