Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday commissioned the new Yaba Bus Terminal, to further boost public transportation in the state.

The Bus Terminal, completed four years after the project was conceived by the past administration, was commissioned amid excitement as traders, commuters and transporters thronged the venue to witness the occasion.

Yaba is a melting pot of commerce, technology and academics in the state.

The terminal built by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is an ancillary infrastructure that will complement the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line currently being constructed by the Sanwo-Olu administration along Yaba corridor.

It will connect to the Red Metro station to facilitate an integrated mass transit and seamless connectivity among all means of land transportation.

According to the governor, the complementary rail line would be ready in the next 18 months to give commuters options to choose the transportation mode they would prefer to get to their destinations.

Operation routes of the bus terminal include Lawanson-Itire Ijesha-Cele, Iyana-Ipaja, Berger, Ikeja, Akoka and Oyingbo.

Sanwo-Olu  appealed to the youths, market men and women as well as all Lagosians to protect the facility and other public projects.

“We are handing it over to all of you, protect the facility, handle it like your personal project. Do not vandalise it; we provided it for you all to ease your movement and to make life easy for you, so take ownership of it. It is your public asset, protect it. It is our civic duty to report wrongdoing and the destruction of public infrastructure to the security agencies and government officials for prompt action,” he said.
