Community rehabilitates, equips Osun school’s science lab

The Oke Baale community in Osogbo, Osun State, has rehabilitated and equipped the science laboratory of NUD Grammar School in Osogbo with the support of Osun Community and Social Development Agency.

The initiative, aimed at addressing the challenge of students’ poor performance in science courses, is coming after the West African Examination Council (WAEC) placed Osun in 29th position out of 36 states in the country, and the lack of necessary facilities, among other reasons, was identified as the cause of the poor performance.

The ranking of Osun State in terms of the performance of senior secondary school students in WAEC remains a serious concern, as students of the school said that lack of a science laboratory had limited their knowledge of science courses and affected their performance in examinations prior to the intervention.

One of the students, Lateefat Lawal, said lack of a science laboratory affected their knowledge of science courses in the past and expressed hope that they would be able to learn better with the new laboratory.

Also speaking, a community leader in Osogbo, Professor Yahaya Babatunde, said the intervention will change the narrative going forward.

Also, the General Manager of Osun Community and Social Development Agency, Mrs. Funmi Aderonke-Abokede, said the agency yielded to the demand of the community considering the importance of science courses in education.
