The Kaya Descendants Community Development Association in Giwa Local Government area of Kaduna State has submitted a petition to the local government chairman over frequent attacks by bandits plaguing the area.

In a letter dated May 28, 2024, signed by the association’s chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Musa, the community raised concerns about the escalating activities of bandits that have been terrorising villagers.

The letter, addressed to the local government chairman and made available to journalists in Zaria, highlights the challenges faced by farmers in the region.

According to the letter, farmers in Kaya and surrounding areas are being extorted by bandits, who demand levies before allowing them to engage in farming activities. Furthermore, the farmers are subjected to harassment, kidnapping and expulsion from their farmlands, even after complying with the bandits’ demands.

The community also expressed distress over destruction of their crops during harvest season, further exacerbating the challenges faced by residents.

The letter further stated that the attacks on the community had disrupted daily activities and instilled fear in children, preventing them from attending school.

In the light of these grave concerns, the community appeals to the chairman of Giwa Local Government and other relevant authorities at the state and national levels to intervene and put an end to the relentless harassment and attacks by bandits.
