A copy of the petition dated October 24, made available to Daily Trust noted that the ministry awarded a contract to M/S Eco-System Consult for the construction of drainage system in response to the call made by the people for intervention on hardship caused by seasonal flooding in the area.
The report states that the contractor commenced work at the site around January, 2013 but executed it poorly.
It said that the work was characterised by poor, shoddy and substandard quality in terms of execution.
According to the report, the drainage was of low depth and poor quality as a result of the use of blocks in place of reinforced concrete.
Also, that the contractor abandoned the work and as a result caused blockage leading to over flooding and water retention from undispersed heaps of soil.
The community is said to be suffering from serious damages to their vehicles due to refusal of the contractor to provide connecting slabs to their respective homes forcing them to abandon them on the streets and making them vulnerable to theft.
The report further said that all efforts by the residents to get the contractor to remedy the situation failed to yield any result.
Aliyu Ibrahim, a representative of the residents, told Daily Trust that they want the ministry to address the plight of the people as quick as possible.
