Community leader raises alarm on cholera outbreak

A Community Leader in Daba Village in Lokoja local government of Kogi state,  Abubakar Suleiman has appealed for urgent government intervention over suspected cholera outbreak in his domain which has so far claimed four lives.

Daba community is an agrarian community in Kupa South in Lokoja Local Government Area.

North Central Trust correspondent learnt that unspecified number of persons in the community are currently suffering from the ailment.

Abubakar Suleiman said that the community of about 200 population doesn’t have access to potable water.

He said that as at  Wednesday four persons were confirmed dead in the community of suspected cholera outbreak.

“This happened because my community could not access potable water. We are using this medium to call on the government to do something before more lives are lost” he added.

He recalled that a similar outbreak had occurred in Tsanawa community about a month ago killing three people.

He however, explained that the environment health officer of Daba community, Mr Mohammed Bochi has been informed of the recent outbreak in the community.

When contacted, Bochi said that he was not in position to comment on the outbreak,  referring our correspondent  the management of Lokoja Local Government Area.
