The Inclusion Project (TIP) in partnership with the Malala Fund bas launched the Community Education Watchdog Committee (CEWC) in Nasarawa and Rimin Gado LGAs of Kano State to reduce the barriers inhibiting girls from accessing basic education and also educate communities on girl child education and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Inaugurating the committee, TIP’s Programme Manager, Barrister Bridget Andrew, disclosed that CEWC was an initiative of the project titled: “Increasing Communities Awareness of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Educational Rights in Imo and Kano States”, which was part of TIP’s effort to reduce the barriers inhibiting girls from accessing basic education.

She further said, “According to the 2017/2018 Annual Schools Census (ASC), there are about 20 million children in Nigeria who are unable to access free and quality basic education, with Kano State having the highest number of 989,234 children who are out of school despite the free and compulsory education policy in the State.”
