The people of Kupa District in Lokoja LGA of Kogi State have raised an alarm over activities of illegal miners in some parts of the district and appealed to the government to stop it.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the Kupa Development Association (KUDA) at the end of its annual general meeting held in Lokoja jointly signed by its chairman, Board of Trustees, Amb. Adamu A. Isa, Abdulmalik Saidu (President) and Abdulkadir Usman Yakubu (Secretary).

The association said illegal mining in the area was already attracting people of questionable characters who often carried sophisticated weapons to the community, adding that the situation had left the residents in perpetual fear.

The communiqué while commending Governor Yahaya Bello for his development efforts, appealed to him to address the infrastructure challenges in Kupa District, especially access roads, potable water and electricity. It urged the elite in and outside Kupa to unite against poverty, underdevelopment and insecurity, especially frequent clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
