Residents of Bukuru in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have arrested one Abdulhamid Sale who was accused of raping seven teenagers in the community.

Aliyu Hassan EL-Yakub, a youth leader of the area who confirmed the arrest to Daily Trust in Jos on Sunday, said the suspect had been transferred from Bukuru ‘B’ Division Police Station to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), State Police Headquarters, Jos.

According to the youth leader, the arrest of the suspect came after a report by the mother of one of the victims to the vigilante group that she saw her daughter with a phone which the parents did not buy for her and called for an investigation into the matter.

He said, “After thorough investigation, we found out that the phone was given to the girl by the said Sale, and further checks revealed that he raped seven girls mostly 13-year-olds. They all claimed he slept with them and gave them money. We arrested him and handed him over to Bukuru  ‘B’ Division Police and he was later taken to the state police headquarters in Jos.”

The youth leader, while expressing his dismay over the incident, called on parents to watch over their kids, saying there are bad eggs in the society who were always ready to prey on impressionable teenagers.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Ubah Gabriel, promised  to find out from the CID and get back to our reporter but at the time of filing this report, he had not.
