Communications Ministry inaugurates 12 projects

The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy on Thursday commissioned 12 projects it executed in some states of the federation.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, who performed the inauguration in Abuja virtually as part of activities marking his one year in office, said the projects were part of the ministry’s efforts towards actualizing a digital Nigeria by 2030 and keeping to the campaign promises of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The projects inaugurated included E-Accessibility Centre at School for Deaf and Blind in Katsina; E-libray at FCE Technical in Kano; Virtual Examination Centre at Enugu; Emergency Communication Centre in Kano; ICT Innovation Hub in Oyo and School of Knowledge at Ikole, Ekiti .

The minister also flagged off digital capacity training programmes to support artisans in Niger, Kogi, Ekiti, Imo, Delta and Adamawa States.

He said the ministry had, over the last one year, trained over 36,000 people nationwide to ensure significant percentage of the citizens has digital literacy and skills.

The chairman of the occasion and governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, in his goodwill message, commended Pantami for the rapid transformation he had brought to the nation’s communication and digital sector over the last one year.

The Executive Vice Chairman of National Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, said the projects would more value to the nation’s digital transformation and would also help in elimination poverty through creation skilled manpower.
