Communal crisis: Taraba gov’t threatens to depose complicit monarchs

Taraba state government has warned that it will depose any traditional ruler that allows communal crisis to happen in his domain.

The Deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, handed out the warning during a peach meeting between the Fulani and Gommu communities in Karim-Lamido local government area of the state.

Alkali, who represented governor Agbu Kefas during the meeting, said his principal was not happy over the recent communal crisis that happened in the area which claimed several lives.

He said traditional rulers must encourage peaceful coexistence among their subjects.

“The government will not tolerate killings and destruction of property in any community and traditional rulers must encourage peaceful coexistence among their subjects and  any traditional ruler found encouraging disharmony in his domain will be deposed,” he warned

Ardo Njarenga Galdo, the National chairman Tabbital Pulaaku, who spoke on behalf of the Fulani community, blamed youths from both sides of causing crisis in the area.

He said they had been living peacefully with their neighbours over the years.

He said the Fulanis would continue to caution youths against causing crisis.

Galdo also urged leaders of Gommo community to also caution their youths.

Mr. Bitrus Bala Sarkin Yara, the chief of Bikwin chiefdom, commended governor Kefas for encouraging peaceful coexistence among the diverse people across the state.

He said the traditional rulers in Karim-Lamido would continue to work for peace inline with the commitment of the state government in ensuring peace in the state.
