The 16 Local Government Authorities in Kwara state have been called upon to establish sports offices in their councils.
Chairman of the Kwara state Sports Commission, Bola Magaji, made the call at the weekend during the unveiling and draws of the first edition of the Sardauna Ilọrin Football Cup in Ilorin.
He said if this is done, the commission will send its coaches down to assist grassroots sports development.
Magaji recalled the olden days when coaches were posted from the sports council to the local councils’ sports offices.

Magaji praised the organisers of the competition for putting it together to honour Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He thanked the ministry of local government and the 16 local government chairmen for making it a reality.
Going down memory lane, Magaji said the last time the state witnessed something like this was in 1982 when it held the sports festival.
He appreciated Alhaji Owolabi Aghaji Wopa, for bringing up the competition.
Chairman of Isin Local Government Area, Hon. Jolayemi Lanre, who described sports as a unifier said the 16 council areas will support the competition in appreciation of the achievements of the governor.
Daily Trust reports that the grassroots football tournament will run from January 27th to February 5th, 2025.
Apart from trophies and medals, teams will battle for the N1m prize money at stake, as well as individual awards.
