The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has urged artisans and allied service providers to work towards self-regulation.
The commission stated this during an engagement with the operators in Abuja where the Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera, represented by the Executive Commissioner Operations, Dr. Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, urged the artisans to also increase consumer and service providers’ awareness to ensure consumers’ interests are protected through quality service delivery.

He further informed them that the FCCPC Act 2018 empowers the commission to engage in advocacy, ensure consumers’ interests receive appropriate attention, encourage trade, industry and professional associations, develop and enforce quality standards as well as ensure a level playing ground for all businesses to thrive.
At the end of the event, the attendants reached some agreements: that artisans and allied service providers should avoid anti-competitive practices; and that the leaders of the various associations must ensure their members avoided coordinated price-fixing which amounts to a violation of the FCCPA, and they must comply with the repair, replace and refund (3Rs) policy of the FCCPC.
