The Colombian Government has appointed Mrs Maricel Romero as Colombia’s Honorary Consul in Nigeria with residence in Abuja.
Hon. Maricel Romero Cantillo presented her Letters of Commission as the new Honorary Consul of Colombia to Nigeria to the Minster of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, His Excellency Geoffrey Onyeama on Friday, 16th October. The Consul conveyed her country’s greetings and well wishes to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. She also expressed her gratitude on behalf of her country for the hand of friendship that has been extended and the invaluable support shown by Nigeria.
The Consul said that this is an important juncture aimed at developing Colombia’s diplomatic presence in Nigeria.
She said, the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Colombia in Nigeria is a long-standing need, which reflects the mutual interest of the parties in expanding collaboration between the two countries, as well as opening up new opportunities for more effective use of the potential of the Colombian community in Nigeria, it is the hope of the Government of Colombia to strengthen ties with Nigeria who share a lot of similarities from the type of food grown to cultural values with Colombia and to enhance ties of goodwill and cooperation with Colombia. The Consul further used the opportunity to express her love for Nigeria and her zeal to begin working on this synergy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs graciously received the Letters of Commission of Maricel Romero Cantillo and expressed his hope for continued co-operation and stronger bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Colombia, especially in the area of branding as a country.
Maricel Romero Cantillo also says the consulate plans to work with citizens, government and business stakeholders of the both countries, as well as promote economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Colombia and Nigeria.
