Repaired Nmuri Bailey Bridge along Umuahia Bende Ozu ABAM Ohafia Road has been declared fit for human and vehicular traffic by officials of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA)
The bridge collapsed in the early part of 2020, grounding vehicular movement and affecting the economic fortunes of the surrounding communities in Abam, Ohafia and Bende, especially farmers and traders.
Many agricultural produce harvested in farms were not conveyed to the urban areas for sale because of the collapsed bridge, thereby leaving most farmers and traders in penury.
But the interventions of Hon. Uko Nkole, the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, attracted FERMA and Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to begin the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge
That led to temporary closure of the road on March 2, 2021, to enable FERMA to begin and complete necessary repairs.
Nkole, however, said works had started on a new concrete bridge, which could carry heavy vehicles, adding that the contract would soon be completed.
