A collapsed bridge has cut off Dansadau District in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State from the rest of the state, Caliphate Trust has learnt.
The bridge, between Mai Lamba and Yar Tasha villages, 26mm North of Dansadau Town or 76 km South of Gusau, the state capital, was washed away by a heavy downpour on Monday.
A farmer, Alhaji Yau Mohammed Dansadau, told our correspondent that the collapse of the bridge had plunged the district into a serious problem as no one could get in or out of the district.
He said there were at least six similar spots along the 100km road and that most times, especially during the rainy season, such bad spots were fixed through self-help by concerned residents.
“Dansadau is a farming district and with the start of the harvesting season there is no way farmers can transport anything in or out of the district. This is a serious challenge to every resident here.
“Besides we are one of the areas facing serious security challenges in the state, so how can security operatives reach out to communities here if there is any security threat in our communities?” he asked.
“Our several appeals and pleas to authorities to fix this very important road have so far fallen on deaf ears. From former Governor Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi to the administration of former Governor Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari no one responded to our plight.
“With this, we are appealing to Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle to in his wisdom and compassion fix this road because of its strategic and economic significance. We have exhausted our financial and physical strengths fixing the road through self-help effort,” he added.
However, the state commissioner of Works and Transport Alhaji Ibrahim Isah Mayana did not respond to calls or text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.
