‘Collaboration will boost mining foreign exchange earning’

Director-General/ Chief  Executive of the National  Metallurgical  Development Centre  (NMDC) in Jos the Plateau State capital,  Prof.  Linus Asuquo, has said improvement on Nigeria’s foreign earnings is achievable through healthy collaborations with relevant foreign organisations.

He spoke during a technical/ fact-finding visit of Directors and Engineering Consultant of Diamond Aggregate Mining Limited India to National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos,

The DG /CE who was represented by the Director, Finance and Human  Resources  Management, Dr  Abubakar Yusuf  Tumi told the team from the Indian company that NMDC does not partner with foreign organisations with exploitative tendencies rather with those that have symbiotic principles in collaborations.

He told the delegation that NMDC’s collaboration with other partners/collaborators has proved that the agency is indispensable to value addition in the mining and steel sector.

According to him, NMDC has researched and upgraded many minerals for governments, corporate organisations and individuals using the latest beneficiation and scientific methods.

He stressed that choosing  NMDC as a  government  agency to collaborate within  Iron  Ore upgrading/beneficiation is the  best decision  the Indian company has taken  considering NMDC’s  unquantifiable benefits to  Nigeria and  India in terms  of foreign  exchange earnings

He assured the Indian team that NMDC being one out of three research and development centres in Africa that has the best manpower and equipment in mineral processing and beneficiation, they are ever ready to add value to any type of mineral or metal presented to them for assessment.

He encouraged the Indian company to get the necessary certification from the Nigerian government particularly from the Mining Cadastral Office of the Ministry of Mines and  Steel  Development, Abuja so as to have a hitched-free mining and exportation business in Nigeria.
